#4a Magical objects in the city
#4b A beer on the roof top
You know this feeling, when you are immediately comfortable in a city. Liking it, wandering around it, seeing the good and bad spots and still feel at home? Well, I didn't have that with Düsseldorf. It might be still a wonderful city, but definitely not my taste. "Trying to be fancy like Munich, but just not getting it right" - that is what we decided how we would describe Düsseldorf. The weird fashion of tube tops and bleached hair seems to be quite popular. 17 bachelorette parties in one night on the main party street, where you get delicious Altbier in 200ml cups. A little bit of carnival feeling all year, I'd say.
But besides that the people you spend your time with are the important thing. I had a blast hanging out with my very good friend Chris on the rooftop, watching the most beautiful city sunset at the Rhine and 4AM Karaoke sessions with my failed attempt to sing in Spanish. Is it the place you are visiting or the people? I think it is a mix of both. Even slightly more the people, in this case at least, because otherwise I would never have set foot into Düsseldorf. I will be there again.
Also, the Old city is really nice to walk around and they serve absolutely amazing coffee at Woyton. My not-so-secret love for dystopia novels and movies was nurtured by a visit to the inter media art institute and don't forget to check out Kunst im Tunnel, which is an interesting small gallery in a tube underground next to the Rhine. And if you need your Otaku/Anime/Japan dose, don't miss Japan Tag in May.
What I got:
Lots of quality time with Chris. A one day festival. And the luxury of drinking your breakfast orange juice with vodka.
What I gave:
A pair of wonderfully soft Alpaca socks - a present from Bolivia. I admit, I had to send them afterwards, but they were originally a house warming gift.
What I lost:
Whoah, nothing!
